orma · noun [Italian] /ˈor.ma/, a footprint, a track, a trace left behind.
ORMA was born in the Italian Dolomites. The Tre Cime ridge in our logo represents the mountains that shaped my life and inspired our mission. I grew up hiking these trails with my best friend, a terrier mix who went from a whirlwind of puppy energy to a steady companion, and eventually an old dog choosing his steps with quiet care. Learning to match my stride to his through every stage of his life became the foundation of everything we build today.
He is gone now, but his legacy echoes in how I look at the outdoors. A lifetime of hiking together taught me a fundamental truth that standard maps ignore. Not every path is kind to a dog, and not every dog is built for every trail.
We realized the route must adapt to the dog, never the other way around. Knowing the terrain before you set out isn't just a matter of safety. It is the key to preserving the joy of the experience.
That realization became ORMA. In Italian, an orma is the footprint a dog leaves on a trail and on your life. For our brand, it is a commitment to Optimised Route Mapping for All dogs and their humans. We built this platform to take the guesswork out of your adventures.
Today, ORMA features over 150 meticulously dog-scored trails across the Dolomites. As we expand into the French Alps and beyond, our purpose remains simple. We map these routes because a walk is never just a walk when shared with a dog. It is an act of partnership, curiosity, and joy.
